As I write this, thousands of writers are on strike for fair pay, artificial intelligence is spreading modern media, and modern machines have replaced hundreds of jobs that used to exist. Here are ten positions that are still among us today that the online community speaking society thinks we could do without. Do you agree that these professions should no longer exist?
1. Used car dealers
A number of users express contempt for used car dealers, noting that they are just intermediaries. “As a former car salesman, I partly agree. I see no reason why a person cannot order a car from a manufacturer. Corporations can do it,” writes one of them.
Another respondent says that a used car salesman followed them into the parking lot after they informed him that they would do business elsewhere.
2. Overpayment to CEOs
“Overpaid CEOs who do nothing but chat with the board of directors and investors, suck the soul out of their product and focus only on profits,” someone says.
Another adds his two cents. “CEOs should only be paid in stock and only get paid more for good work that was first distributed in the form of stock and bonuses to the workforce. There are companies that do this, but, unfortunately, too rarely.”
3. Cashiers
This answer caused controversy in the comments. Half of the users believe that self-checkouts have long since replaced human cashiers, while others believe that human cashiers are still needed, as self-checkouts often fail.
4. Gas pumps
This profession is not relevant to those who live in the South, but in some states, such as Oregon and New York, gas station workers go out and fill you up with gasoline. Nice gesture, but useless.
5. Valet parking
“My wife and I love to dine at good restaurants a few times a year, but it’s not enough to pay a valet unless it’s ‘free’, otherwise we’d spend more on parking fees than tipping a valet. We’re not rich, so it’s always a special event, and I hate it when we try a new place that makes you feel poor for not wanting to park your own car,” the anti-valet shares.
6. Toilet workers
There are fewer workers in the toilets than before, but some concert venues and bars are still hiring staff to maintain the toilet. During their shift, they prepare towels, turn on the sink, and offer you mints or other goodies. It is customary to tip.
7. Telemarketer
One passionate user says that the heyday of telemarketers is over. In this age of ubiquitous digital technology, we do not need human merchants to promote sales. In addition, many people avoid or block calls from telemarketers, which is not conducive to the growth of any company’s business.
8. Lobbyist
The main unloved profession in this branch is a lobbyist or a person who influences legislation and government officials. Lobbyists help educate and inform government officials before making changes to the law.
9. Politicians
In addition to lobbyists, commentators want to eradicate political positions. The user says that one person shouldn’t have that much power at any one time. At the same time, another respondent says that the politicians overdid it.
10. Tax workers
“H&R Block and any other business based solely on helping people navigate an unnecessarily complex tax system,” the creature notes. Others agree, arguing that the government can simplify taxes by cleaning up the tax break hierarchy.
