11 Exact Moments People Realized They Were ‘Old’

We don’t forget that we are getting older. We are just too often absorbed in the hustle and bustle. And then one day, or every once in a while, we have this “light bulb” moment that brings us back to reality and makes us realize that time really flies, and we gradually become like our parents.

I turned 36 this month and was reminded how much I want to get older. Ironically, aging is getting too fast for me now. My moment was four years old when I was under 40 years old. But everyone’s moment is different. Here’s what people on a popular internet forum have to say about how they realized they were old.

1. Can’t find cosmetics

One lady realized this when they stopped manufacturing all of her cosmetics. One by one, her shampoo, eyebrow pencil and curlers disappeared, wishing they had been in production for over 30 years.

2. Read Rolling Stone

“I read rolling stone in the doctor’s office and realized that I barely knew any of the bands on the Billboard #1 singles list,” said one user. They admit that 90s music for their kids is like 60s music for them. Someone else chimed in, saying they almost fell when a local radio station started calling 1980s tunes “golden oldies”. Yes, I can feel them. Aren’t the 1950s and 1960s considered “golden old men”?

3. Too sweet to enjoy

One person started mixing corn flakes with frozen cereal because the frozen cereal itself was too sweet. A stark difference from their 7-year-old selves. The second person replied, “My child is laughing at me because I mix white milk with chocolate milk because it’s too sweet.”

4. Question about eyebrows

A man doesn’t have to worry about his eyebrows for the first twenty years of his life, but things change. One man on the forum admits that the first time a barber asked if they wanted to trim their eyebrows made them realize how old they were.

5. The film “The Lord of the Rings” (LOTR)

It’s hard for one user to believe that The Lord of the Rings movie is already 20 years old. According to them, they were not even children, but new homeowners when the film was released.

6. Doubt in ability

Even though they don’t feel 44, one person constantly thinks they can get hurt when they need to do something. In response, the 45-year-old recalls how they used to sled down 275 feet in several daring poses as children. But lately, when they visited that same hill, their first thought was, “Oh my God, this is terrible. I can really get hurt.” crawling on all fours to get down.

7. Fall on ice

One man recounts how they recently fell onto the ice in front of a large crowd. Even though he thought the experience was funny, everyone gasped and looked scared as he descended. Then he realized that he might not feel old, but other people know that he is old. On the other hand, falling lately has felt like a death sentence, unlike how it felt as a child.

8. Knowing celebrities who have passed

In the past, celebrities who passed away were just random people. A person laments that in our time it is almost impossible not to recognize a deceased celebrity from at least one of her movie roles. Even if the films they starred in seemed modern, they could have been made 30 years ago.

9. Be over 25

One user recently saw a post on the Internet about 25 year old popular things and thought about the 80s only to realize that 25 years ago was 1998. Then they also realized that they were over 25 years old. Also, using the phrase “20 years ago” in a recent conversation with a friend struck them in different ways.

10. View of the wooden RCA console

While visiting a second-hand store, a wooden RCA console brought back childhood memories to one commentator. But the child behind her, calling it an ancient television, made them realize how old they had become. It was produced the same year she was born.

11. Hair thinning and haircut

“My hair has been thinning since I was in my 20s, but what really killed it were the four little hairs that are still sticking out of my forehead where my hairline used to be,” says one man. In addition, the routine trimming of his ears, nose, and eyebrows constantly reminds him of his old age. Do you have anything to add to this list?
