Dr. Seuss’ $19 million estate has just been listed for sale and the ocean views are amazing.

The whimsical worlds created by Dr. Seuss do not have the breathtaking vistas of his real estate.

“You have gone to wonderful places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so…let’s go!” notes the listing provided by Barry Estates. That’s a fitting description of the late Dr. Seuss’ $19 million hilltop estate overlooking the ocean in La Jolla, California.

For the first time in 75 years, the vast estate once owned by Theodor Geisel is up for sale. The 5,000-square-foot, four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bath home sits on four hilltop acres with stunning ocean views.

The estate was donated to UC San Diego in 2019 by Audrey Diamond, Dr. Seuss’ late wife. Proceeds from the sale will go to the newly created Geisel Foundation and will be used for campus projects, according to a spokesman for the University of California, San Diego.

The estate is a set of four different pieces of real estate that can be purchased together or separately. The 5,000-square-foot home sits on a $12 million, 1.5-acre lot. Three contiguous lots cost between $4 million and $4.5 million each. The entire property is valued at $19 million.

Jason Barry of the Jason Barry Team at Barry Estates told the New York Post, “This is arguably one of the most impressive 4+ acre properties on the west coast, offering breathtaking 270-degree views of the coastline and mountains.” He continued: “This is a once-in-a-generation property; it’s been out of stock for 75 years, and when it’s out, it’s out.”
