10 Genius Anti-Poverty Tips That Will Help You Save a Fortune

Are you looking for ways to tighten up and cut down on spending money? Then we’ll cover you. The popular poverty finance forum has shared these helpful money-saving tips.

1. Walmart is sometimes cheaper than dollar stores.

“Some dollar store items are cheaper at Walmart, like dish soap, shampoo, shower gel, etc. They often sell for 75 cents. So stock up when you see these offers,” shared one of them. “Honestly, most things in the dollar store are fakes. The only thing I stock up on is their dishwashing sponges. They are good and thick.

2. Local group “Do not buy anything”

Buy Nothing groups on Facebook are a great place to find free homewares, furniture, clothing, toys, books, food, tools, and other household items. In addition, many items are of better quality than buying cheaper new items on sale.

3. Discount grocery stores

Another suggested, “Look out for discount grocery stores. One of them sells things like cereal for 75 cents a box. This has saved me a ton of groceries and shelf-stable foods. I always check jars to make sure they are still in order. I’ve never had a bad experience.”

4. Use the ingredients on hand

“Myfridgefood.com is similar to the one I used in college. Using what you have in the fridge before you buy more is a lifesaver, besides using the food pantries in your area. My sister often takes food out of the pantry and shares it with our household,” shared another.

5. Learn Some Cleaning Techniques

“Use baking soda and vinegar for cleaning,” one replied. “Dish soap and baking soda are great cleansers. You can wash your hair with baking soda and rinse with vinegar. Want to extend the life of your fabric softener or replace it entirely? Apply vinegar to an old face cloth and use it as a dryer.”

6. Make Bone Broth

“When you cook chicken or chicken pieces, boil the bones later and strain the broth to use as a soup base or boil rice in it. For most meat bones, you can do this,” shared one. “To stretch meat, use in casseroles or soups (lots of recipes online) and make dumplings to add to soups or stews (super easy and very satisfying).”

7.Temperature control

“In winter, keep the thermostat down and wear more layers of clothing. To keep warm at night: fill an empty pop bottle (2L) with as hot water as the tap will run, screw on the cap tightly, dry it, and place it in a pillowcase. Bend over to the foot of the bed so that your legs can reach it, another replied.

“Otherwise it would be $30-$50 to cut/trim my boyfriend’s beard per month. (no tips). My hair is cut once a year, but women’s haircuts are always more expensive.

9. Buy multiple gift cards

“I know this might only be helpful to some, but if you can get gift cards to pay for cheap car food, always check which grocery store has the rewards,” suggested one.

“Kroger is great for this because you can earn bonus gas points for buying gift cards. So if you’re going to be eating off the dollar menu for a week, this might be a great way to get a little more out of your dollar.”
