Who wouldn’t want to have a little extra money these days?
Whether it’s your favorite part-time job, part-time job, passive income from investments, or any other means. One way to make extra money is with Poshmark. In today’s post, Poshmark Review, I will show you how I use Poshmark to buy and sell used branded items online.
What is Poshmark?
I started using Poshmark about two years ago when my wife started selling guitars on eBay. After posting some branded merchandise such as wallets and shoes on eBay, I came across Poshmark, an app that was developed for those specific merchandise.
I had to check it out, so I signed up with a friend’s signup code and got $ 5 for free. Then I started listing some of the things I put up on eBay, as well as clothes that didn’t fit me anymore. I could take these clothes to a clothing resale store, where I would probably make $ 2 per item, or sell them on Poshmark for 400% more.
Naturally, I chose the latter.
I never planned on buying anything in the app until I came across an ad that was a win-win for me. It was a charming sweater that was worn once and only cost $ 11. The referral credit I had at the time was enough to cover the purchase, so I went for it.
Why would I go to a clothing resale store again when I can use Poshmark? It was also a great way for me to make money from my hobby.
Poshmark Review
How to use Poshmark
After downloading Poshmark to your phone:
- Add profile picture
- Add header image
- Fill in your basic information
After you complete these basic steps, you can start photographing the items you want to sell in your closet. Your closet is where your Poshmark ads will appear.
pros
The app makes it incredibly easy to sell your products through the seamless processes they have implemented in the app.
Easy to list items
I love how easy it is to start listing your products. You can also list your products until they are sold.
The first step in making a list of items is to take a photograph of your item, or select already taken photos from your gallery on your smartphone. Once all of your photos are selected and ready to go, you can navigate to the item information, category, size, brand, etc.
But my favorite feature is the area where the app prompts you to enter the original price and listing price. From there he shows you immediately what will be your earnings after the sale of the product after the Poshmark commission. This way you know exactly what your home earnings will be.
Easy delivery
The shipping cost is paid by the buyer. Once your item is sold, Poshmark will email you a shipping label. Then, all you have to do is print a shipping label and stick it on the outside of your package for the local post office to scan.
All labels are USPS Priority Mail.
Minuses
As with any online reseller platform, not all aspects are perfect. The disadvantages of the app include constant social interaction with potential buyers, and the fact that the app is not ideal for boutique stores.
Dealing with picky buyers
The most annoying side of Poshmark was the constant interaction that potential buyers sometimes required. Some people will lead you away with question after question about the condition of your item, how many times it has been used, specific measurements, additional photographs, and other picky requests.
I understood. They try not to fall into the trap.
Then, after you have answered all of their questions, they will completely ghost you. This is the part I don’t understand, but has happened to me several times.
Not the best option for boutique stores
Poshmark has the option to create a boutique store on Poshmark if you have a large number of items to sell. However, when comparing Poshmark’s fees to other online platforms like eBay, Letgo and even Craigslist, Poshmark is not ideal here.
List of items for sale
As mentioned earlier, the list of items for sale starts with photographs. This means good images.
Take good photos
I like to use the natural sunlight that comes in through our windows to photograph subjects, and this is the cheapest option. When I list clothes or shoes, I like to put them on the couch next to nice pillows and blankets.
Some Poshmark sellers like to use mannequins to display clothes and accessories, which is a great approach if you are looking to buy a mannequin.
However, the most important things to keep in mind when taking good photos are:
- Use natural light as the cheapest option
- Take pictures of the subject from as many angles as possible.
- Please indicate in the photos any product defects (stains, tears, etc.)
Crafting descriptions
First, I want to start by finding the original description of the item on the seller’s site. Then I usually copy and paste that description and add a few lines about any specific things I need to communicate to the buyer, like how many times it has been used, any defects like stains, dimensions, material, color, size, etc. do this is to include keywords and increase the potential of the item displayed in the Poshmark search.
Pricing items
The price of your items for sale on Poshmark does not differ much from their listing on eBay. This is why I am starting the eBay pricing process. After I check the average price for this item on eBay, I search on Poshmark.
I then rate the subject as competitively as possible, taking into account its condition and how it compares to other subjects already listed that I discovered during my research.
Negotiating with buyers
Perhaps this should not be stated as “against” the Poshmark application. But this is what happens on any reseller platform.
You will find that people want to buy your product for next to nothing and will send you offensive offers. Therefore, they go to Poschmark in the first place – to try to get something on the deal.
Don’t let them weigh you down and stick to the price you want for the item. If an item in my Poshmark closet has been there for a while, I will decline certain offers because I want to get rid of it. This is a decision that you must make for yourself, and if you are ready to sell the product at a price lower than you originally indicated.
You can set the minimum price you are willing to accept for the item to avoid these headaches.
Ligaments
Bundles are great for this kind of exchange. Let’s say they offer you $ 10 for the $ 20 skirt you specified. If you have another similar skirt in your closet (at the same price) that you want to get rid of without losing too much on the deal, you can offer them a set instead of two $ 30 skirts. They’ll get a $ 5 discount on 2 skirts and you kind of meet in the middle of these negotiations.
Goods delivery
As I mentioned above, I love how Poshmark handles shipping by providing you with a shipping label and all you have to do is print it and attach it to your package.
But you need to buy your own packaging materials. Wrapping envelopes with inner bubble wrap are the best for clothes, they are much cheaper than buying boxes and bubble wrap separately. It also works to reuse your smaller Amazon boxes from past deliveries that you have.
Finishing touches
Customers love to receive personalized shipping notes. They are also a lot of fun to make.
I include a thank you letter with all my shipments, with a personalized message to the customer, thanking them for their purchase and some positive blessings for the day. Adding a creative flair with doodle doesn’t hurt either, especially if you’re artistic.
I have received excellent feedback on my thank you letters and usually credit me with receiving a Love Note from my customers.
Love Notes are what appears on the Posher About page when they receive a 5-star rating. The more love notes you have, the more 5-star ratings you have, and the more 5-star ratings you have, the more trustworthy you will be from the seller.
Poshmark Commission
Poshmark’s policy on commissions is that it is free to list your items. When your product is sold, they get their share.
Poshmark fees include:
- Sales up to $ 15, flat rate is $ 2.95.
- Sales above $ 15, commission 20%, you keep 80%
For these fees, you get:
- Free prepaid shipping of labels (paid by the buyer)
- Free credit card processing
- Posk Protect Customer Support & Buyer Protection
- Sales tax is automatically calculated, collected and paid to the government on your behalf.
Create your subscription
Poshmark is one of the easiest platforms for you to create followers on.
I got 4582 followers by going to the Find People area of my account page (labeled with your username). Then I followed Poshmark ambassadors and new people. Most of the people you follow will follow you back.
Once you’ve initially downloaded the app, start listing in your closet. You will receive an influx of subscribers who will also search in the “Find People” section to subscribe to them. It’s like instant followers, and then people keep following you either through the Find People area, or through sharing their items, finding your items and sharing them, or chic parties.
Chic Parties
Swanky parties are real money. I made a lot of sales solely because of the chic parties.
Chic parties are pre-scheduled parties from the Poshmark editor for specific categories that were popular in the app at the time. These are general parties where sellers share with you and then other sellers re-share your items, expanding the audience of potential buyers for everyone.
Here are some examples of chic parties:
- Autumn favorites chic party
- Best in Jeans Posh Party
- Everything for a petite chic party
- Chic street style party
Posh perfect conclusion
It was difficult for me to sell at first because I expected things to sell like crazy. When you start with a small number of followers and only a couple of products, you are not going to sell anything right away.
It wasn’t until I had at least ten items on the list and started actively participating in fancy parties that I started selling. Once you get the first couple of sales, along with reviews and customer ratings, selling becomes a lot easier.
It’s a great tool to use in addition to other platforms you can use to list items for resale as a side hustle, but just as good for getting rid of things cluttering your closet.
If you need to sell something quickly, I advise you to list the item on both Poshmark and eBay. There was a time when I sold first on eBay, so it’s worth a try.
And as always, keep experimenting and have fun with other ways to make money from home!
