10 Most Expensive Items People Still Buy

In today’s consumer-centric society, some products are so overpriced that it’s hard to understand why people still buy them. After someone asked Reddit, “What’s ridiculously overpriced but you’re still buying?” These are the most popular confessions.

1. At home

One admitted that he had a house closing tomorrow and received criticism for buying it at an expensive time. However, they said their mortgage, including insurance and property taxes, would be almost $400 cheaper than their current rent and would rise by more than $100 if they decide to renew their lease in February. In addition, they acknowledged that house prices may drop slightly next year, but not by much in their area.

2. Alcohol

Another suggested that alcohol prices are generally inflated, and even beer prices are on the rise. They mentioned they don’t drink anymore, but where they live, six packs of local craft beer used to cost $10 for something as simple as pale ale, but now the minimum price is $13-$14.

3. Food

Someone has noticed how high the prices of products are and they are watching sales and coupons in the app along with a measly 10% discount. They clarified that the cost of frozen pizza has become so high that in most cases it is close to $10, so they decided to learn how to make their own pizza. It’s hard, but they save a lot by eating homemade pizza four times a week.

4. Attending sports events

Several users agreed that sporting event perks are overpriced. Many try to eat before leaving and resist the urge to buy beer, but sometimes seeing others enjoy their food and drink doesn’t discourage them either.

5. Medical insurance

Americans stepped in and agreed that the cost of health insurance was ridiculously high. Not only are people still buying it, but they SHOULD do it, and it sucks. One shared, “For our family of five, insurance premiums, deductibles, and drugs are about $35,000 a year.”

6. Cars

Someone explained that the cost of buying a new car in their area is prohibitive. In addition, we note that the number of new cars is limited.

In addition, they have noticed that the prices of used cars have increased significantly, with a difference of $10,000-12,000 compared to the costs of a year and a half ago, which they consider unreasonable. Many agreed that this is absurd.

7. Glasses

A few Redditors agreed that the points are overpriced, but like so many other things, they are a must for some people. One of them found that Zenni glasses are 75-95% as good as luxury glasses, but at a fraction of the price. They also noted that the same manufacturers make the majority of luxury glasses in China, and only boutiques offer unique frames.

8. Insulin

One man said the cost of insulin was too high and insurance companies were making it difficult for people to get supplies. The Inflation Reduction Act capped the monthly supply of insulin at $35, but only for Medicare recipients, and he believes it should be available to everyone at that price. They also expressed their frustration with the American healthcare system.

9. Video cards

Some people think that graphics cards are overpriced and even though they are getting better, they are still expensive. One mentioned that half a decade ago they bought a mid-range graphics card for their living room TV and expected it to become obsolete quickly.

However, the lack of chips makes only a minor upgrade more expensive. They want a ray-traced card, but they want to pay a little for it.
