A look back at the successes and failures of the Biden presidency so far

Joe Biden took office with a lot of problems ahead of him. High inflation, high gas prices and Covid-19 passed to him when Trump left office. There have been ups and downs for Biden in 2022. He was able to achieve historic legislative victories, but inflation persisted for most of the year.

successes

Despite a slim Democratic majority in Congress, Biden was able to push through historic legislation. He has been able to introduce and pass bills aimed at improving the country’s infrastructure, he has been able to help reduce the cost of pharmaceutical products, he has also introduced legislation to combat climate change, and he has done everything possible to promote security and gun control.

He was also responsible for the nomination and appointment of the first African American woman to the Supreme Court. Biden has led a multinational coalition that has consistently supported Ukraine in its war with Russia.

It allowed the United States to provide billions of dollars of military and humanitarian aid, including helping Ukraine with its air defenses using the Patriot missile battery. “I have spent several hundred hours face to face with our European allies and the heads of state of these countries and argued why, in the vast majority of cases, it is in their interest to continue to support Ukraine,” Biden said during the speech. meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

Biden has also been a strong advocate of bipartisan deal-making. He was able to garner bipartisan support in both his infrastructure bill and his gun safety legislation.

failures

Biden and the Democrats were unable to eliminate the filibuster, so many of his campaign promises had to be delayed, broken or compromised. Biden was a supporter of free community colleges on the campaign trail, but as soon as he took office, it became clear that the road to free colleges would not be as smooth as he expected.

Another Universal Pre-K initiative was rejected by the Senate. Changes in Congress also led to the failure of Biden’s promise to raise taxes on large corporations. The reason for not passing the bill was that the taxes would disproportionately hit small businesses rather than the billionaires who were supposed to be targeted.

Inflation was one of the biggest setbacks of the Biden presidency, although the rate of inflation itself cannot be fully attributed to him. Fortunately, inflation has come down over the past few months; however, it is still the highest it has been in 40 years and the recession is still looming.

Immigration was another important factor. Biden fought to repeal Section 42, but opposition from Republican states led the Supreme Court to vote in favor of extending it. The state of the border is deplorable, with many migrants sleeping in canvas-covered tents, unable to keep warm during the cold months.

Afghanistan has also been a notable failure. While many Americans were probably relieved when their troops returned home, many would argue that withdrawing all troops at once was objectively a bad decision.

To top it all off, when our troops left, they left behind all military equipment and weapons, which were quickly used by terrorist organizations such as the Taliban.
